NEW YORK—Midseason shows are not known for presenting a plethora of product introductions; nonetheless, New York International Gift Fair’s August run did impress us with a short list of new products that we think are worth a look.
This stylish birdhouse from Fred and Friends looks so inviting it practically begs birds to enter. The bird cutout even shows them where to go! It’s made of natural finished pine with a removable orange or green roof.
BloemBox Originals make nifty gifts for teachers, office pals or hostesses. A single, brilliant blossom crowns each gift box. Peek inside and you’ll find a 15-foot biodegradable, plantable tissue-paper seed ribbon that grows into the blossom atop each box.
Wild Wings Literary Lodgings are decorative birdhouses made from books discarded from libraries and salvaged from Dumpsters. These houses, from Ellie & Friends, are for indoor use only. Does anybody else see the irony in a birdhouse made from an early edition of “To Kill A Mockingbird”?
Whether your customer’s home is dripping in tinseled ornamentation or this is a single holiday adornment, Aunt Sadie’s Tree In A Can candles are must-have accessories. They’re hand-poured, hand-packaged and are lead free with a zinc wick.
Ecosource Home and Garden rolled out new styles and colors for eco-friendly holiday gift giving. Festive red and orange brighten up the existing autumn-oriented palette. GreenPots are all natural, made from renewable plant fibers combined with natural starches and pigments.
You either love gnomes or hate ‘em. If it’s the latter, watch with amusement as Gnome-Be-Gone frees a garden of the kitschy little invaders. The set from Sugarpost includes one gnome and two helpful Gnome-Be-Gones.
As a child of the Disco Era, I had to include this one. The Solar Disco Ball from Kikkerland Design brings ’70s style into the Green 00s. It runs on sun energy indoors or out.
The Gift Fair runs through Thursday.
