Want to know what gardeners think? A study published by the National Gardening Association is offering some insight.
One of the most noteworthy findings shows that your biggest competitor is probably not the big box down the street. It’s all the activities that occupy precious weekend hours.
To determine if gardening is truly America’s No. 1 hobby, the “What Gardeners Think” survey asked a representative sample of all U.S. households, “How would you say that your interest in gardening compares with your interest in other leisure-pursuits?” The results show that 72% of all respondents said they are more interested in activities other than gardening; 24% said they find gardening and other pursuits equally interesting; and only 3% of all respondents said they are more interested in gardening than other leisure-time pursuits.
The NGA study is packed with other interesting tidbits, including which retail outlets consumers prefer. The 160-page report is available for purchase online.
