I’m a Discovery Channel junkie. Every Tuesday night I plop down in front of the tube to watch “Dirty Jobs.” For the uninitiated, the show follows Mike Rowe as he travels around the country trying his hand at some of the filthiest jobs imaginable. Hilarity ensues.
In a recent segment Mike visited the company responsible for Cow Pots, a biodegradable pot made from composted cow manure. Mike got to walk though the entire process: from collecting the cow poo, to forming the actual pots. He even got to paddle through (bleep!) creek. A proud moment for him, I’m sure.
There’s a lot of buzz around these nifty pots. (And, no, it’s not coming from flies. The makers of Cow Pots say the product is fragrance-free.) The Mailorder Gardening Association recently gave a Green Thumb Award to this unusual container. Looks like this company has come a long way from hand-gluing and drying pots in toaster ovens.

I thought this rhyme was lost in memory somewhere, but your entry unearthed it again:
Cow manure may be impure
But of this you can be sure
When it's time to fertilize
It's the one that takes the prize.

I recently read a fascinating article on chicken feather biodegradable pots. These earth friendly advancements are simply amazing. What WILL they think of next?

I'm glad to see this concept coming round again. And they are really neat products. I can verify the non-smell too. A while back someone I know gave Cow Poo ornaments for Christmas gifts. Talk about going green? And you're right, Dirty Jobs = hilarity. But you could NOT pay me enough...
